Complications of Excess Weight (CEW)

The newly formed Children’s Complications of Excess Weight (CEW) service is located in Ä¢¹½tvÊÓƵ and covers the whole of the West Yorkshire region. The service aims to support children, young people and their families who are struggling to achieve a healthy weight.

The Ä¢¹½tvÊÓƵ and West Yorkshire Healthy Weight Clinic: A user's guide. Why are you here? You have been referred by a health professional to help you be your healthiest self. Your first appointment is an education session and a chance to get to know the team. Everyone is different and come from different backgrounds, so all the work we do with you will be all about you! At your next appointment you will meet a doctor and a dietician. Some blood tests are needed to check your health, but we can use some magic cream to take the pain away. The team make a plan for you and your family. The plan lasts 8 to 12 weeks, it involves check ins and meeting lots of people. Meet the doctor and dietician and check weight and height. A less intense plan 6 months later, positive outcomes, then goodbye!

What we do

Our team offer a non-judgemental and stigma-free approach. We want to get to know the children and young people we support and discover what matters most to them, in all aspects of their life.

We work with children and young people and their families to make what is called a ‘personalised plan’, which is a plan that is unique to each person.

Our clinics might be a little different from others; they are held outside of the hospital, in a health centre in the community and offer a fun activity filled, education session. Our clinics offer children and young people the chance to meet the team get to know each other in a relax and fun way.
